Embossing usually comes out of a velvet in the wash. This one does not: the chequer is pressed into a microfibre pile that holds the impression through cleaning, which is why an embossed velvet could be brought into furnishing at all.
The chequer repeats every 2 cm and reads three-dimensionally close to, flat and tonal from further off. At 330 g it is light for a velvet and drapes accordingly, so it belongs at a window or on a cushion rather than under daily use; Rubelli keep it to light use. Fourteen colourways, 150 cm wide, woven in Czechia.
