Colour is what has changed. A toile is conventionally monochrome, one shade on a plain ground with the whole effect built out of line; this one has been printed in full colour, and that alters what it is for. A monochrome toile behaves almost as a texture across a room. This one does not, and wants to be seen.
Pure cotton at 280 g, 150 cm wide, with a horizontal repeat of 145 cm, close to the full width, so the picture uses the whole cloth. Three colourways at 20,000 Martindale, rated for drapery and upholstery. Made in Italy.
