Brocade began as a furnishing cloth and was borrowed by fashion, which is roughly the history this one carries: an eighteenth-century pattern woven with metallic yarn in the modern manner, dense and bright at the figure, quiet between.

Brocade in the strict sense means extra wefts floated into the ground only where the pattern needs them, and that is what gives the raised, worked quality of the surface here. The horizontal repeat is 35 cm, a quarter of the 140 cm width, so the design falls four times across the cloth and the scale stays small enough for cushions and narrow drops. At 600 g it is heavy for a light-use rating, and most of that weight is in the figure. One colourway. Made in Italy.
