Dots set on the diagonal and touching, so the eye joins them into lines running across the cloth instead of reading them as a scatter. The ground has a metallic cast and the viscose pile is thick and raised, which gives the maximum available contrast between figure and field: one absorbs light, the other throws it back.
At 930 g this is the heaviest sort of jacquard velvet, with a 16 by 17 cm repeat that keeps the pattern working on small pieces as well as large. 40,000 Martindale rubs, rated for regular use, certified to BS5852 for cigarette and match. The pile is viscose over a cotton ground, which is what gives it a liquid sheen rather than the drier surface of a cotton velvet. Six colourways. Woven in India.
