Rubelli | Il Marchese di Carabà

Gabriel Pacheco illustrated Perrault's tale of the Marquis of Carabas, and his figures do not stand on anything. They float, at the odd scale and in the odd company that fairy tales allow, and Rubelli has printed the illustration at full size onto cotton.

The repeat is 142 cm vertically and 140 cm across, which is to say the entire width of the cloth. There is one image, and it is the size of the fabric. The two versions light the same scene differently, one by sun and one by moon, and they end up as properly different pictures.
