Katagami are the stencils Japanese dyers cut to pattern cloth for kimono, and the finest of them are held as works in their own right. The all-over design here takes its structure from them: small motifs repeating evenly across the ground, the pattern carried by the cut rather than by a brushstroke.
Woven in Trevira CS and light at 379 g, it holds a 56 cm vertical repeat against 70 cm across, a generous figure at this scale, which means the eye reads surface before it reads motif. The fire certification is comprehensive, running to French M1, German B1, IMO for both curtains and upholstery and the British contract standards for both, so it goes into hospitality without argument. Eleven colours, 140 cm wide, made in Italy.
