Someone looked hard at a hand-made cloth and then set about reproducing what the hand had done, the small irregularities, the unevenness of a surface that was never mechanical to begin with. Lily is the jacquard that came out of that study, a satin with silk in it which keeps the imprint of the original without pretending to be it.
