The study behind it was a hand-woven Indian silk, an unlikely starting point for an outdoor cloth and exactly why it does not look like one. Each version is built from yarns of different shades and different characters, so the surface carries the small tonal disagreements that hand weaving produces.
It is solution-dyed acrylic, coloured in the fibre rather than on the surface: 7 out of 8 for colour fastness to light, 4 to 5 out of 5 to both chlorinated and sea water, and 24,000 Martindale.
