Strips of colour cross and re-cross in sequence, letting a lighter ground show through the gaps, and the palette they work in belongs squarely to the 1950s. It is a lampas, which is to say the pattern is woven in with supplementary wefts over a base cloth rather than printed on top, so the colours hold their edges cleanly.
