Late Baroque embroidery is the source, and what carries over is not the stitch but the logic: ornament laid deliberately across broad, uninterrupted fields of colour, so the ground does as much work as the figure. Here that ground is a silk satin.
The foliage moves in and out of the light, the weft changes bringing a shimmer to the leaves that a flat damask would not give, and the repeat runs 72.6 cm vertically against 70 cm across, near enough square. The palette leans on neutrals, with a red and a yellow to break them.
