Tartan on a velvet is a slightly improbable idea, and it works because the pile takes the print unevenly. The check softens at every edge, the intensities vary from one band to the next, and the result has a depth no woven check achieves. Cotton throughout, pile and ground, on a small repeat of 34 cm by 23 cm, so the pattern behaves as texture at any distance.
