The original sits in the Rubelli archive, a brocade from the second half of the eighteenth century which the mill has read closely rather than copied. Several different metallic weaves build the ornament, each catching light at a slightly different angle, and it is that variation rather than any colour contrast which gives the pattern its relief.
Silk, cotton and linen with metallic yarn, at 359 g, on a 69 cm vertical repeat over a narrow 35 cm horizontal one. The narrow figure is why the design reads as continuous vertical movement, and why it hangs as well as it does.
Rated for light use. Ten colours, 140 cm wide, made in Italy.
