Seven different wefts went into this cloth, and you can feel every one of them. The boucle rises off the ground in irregular relief and lets the base show through in the gaps, so the surface reads as pitted and cratered rather than woven flat. Rubelli had two things in mind: the surface of the moon, and the rough materials Carlo Scarpa was building with in the 1960s. The name fixes the date, the years of the landing and the first walk.
The warp is evo nylon, a yarn spun from castor seed that Rubelli has used for some years now. At 660 g and 38,000 Martindale it is a substantial cloth, with a 60 cm vertical repeat that takes some placing, though at this scale of texture the eye is forgiving.
