Enough weft goes into the figure for it to stand proud of the silk ground, which is what makes this a lampas rather than a damask, and the floral is dense enough to fill the field almost completely. What is unusual is how far the palette travels: several versions are tonal and barely raise their voice, others pair two soft shades against each other, and some carry fluorescent notes that a drawing of this period has no business carrying and wears rather well.
The ground is silk, the figure viscose, at 550 g and 135 cm wide with a 45 cm vertical and 67.5 cm horizontal repeat, half the width. Rubelli rates it for regular use, which puts it on a chair or a headboard as readily as on a cushion. Made in Italy.
