The wave motif comes out of a book of textile patterns from the Twenties held in the Fondazione Rubelli archive, and it has the hypnotic quality that decade liked: a small, regular undulation filling the whole field. The repeat is 1.5 cm vertically and 9 cm across, so it is very nearly a texture, and at any distance the effect is of a surface breathing rather than a pattern repeating.
Underneath is a silk satin ground, which is what the wave is really for: the ripple breaks that satin into bands of light and shadow that move as the cloth moves. Silk, viscose, cotton, acetate and linen, 390 g, 139 cm wide. Design Formafantasma. Made in Italy.
