Marbled paper, the kind Venetian merchants were importing from Persia by the sixteenth century, translated into cloth. The originals take their colour shifts from pigment floating on water; here the same effect is built by mixing and interlacing weaves, which is a far harder way to arrive at something that has to look accidental.
What comes out is the plumed, eyed figure the name refers to, drawn at a 52 cm vertical repeat against only 22.5 cm across, so it runs in narrow vertical bands rather than spreading. 410 g, 135 cm wide, 25,000 Martindale, for upholstery. Made in Italy.
