Flock printing lays a short pile onto the surface, so the petunias here do not sit flat: they stand slightly proud of the linen, velvety where the ground is matt and open. The flowers are large and only lightly stylised, and the contrast in texture does more work than the drawing does.
The ground is pure linen and behaves like it, with small irregularities running through the weave that are the mark of a natural yarn rather than a fault. An 81 cm vertical repeat against 70 cm across the 140 cm width makes this a large-scale design. 50,000 Martindale, so it will upholster as readily as it will hang. Made in Italy.
