Seven colourways is a great many for a velvet woven by hand at a few centimetres a day, and it is the first thing to notice: most of the Soprarizzi run to one or two.
Rubelli classes this one as an antiqued velvet, so the surface is finished to read as older than it is. The construction is a silk pile on a silk and cotton ground at 215 g, with a short 22 cm repeat, which means a small-scale figure tiling several times across a single cushion.
The width is 60 cm, set by the nineteenth-century looms at the Cucciago mill where the collection is woven. Like the rest of them it is for cushions, panels, chair backs and screens rather than upholstery that has to take weight. Made in Italy.
