The source is an eighteenth-century embroidery in which the decorative elements were assembled from a patchwork of Indian fabrics, each piece bringing its own pattern and its own palette. To get that density back into a woven cloth Rubelli used a great many coloured wefts, and the count shows: at 680 g this is a heavy fabric and the figure stands off the ground in genuine relief.
The drawing is delicate rather than grand, and it is large. A 76 cm vertical repeat against 70 cm across, half the 135 cm width, means a single motif governs most of a drop. Offered in two versions only. Rubelli lists it for curtains, and it will upholster. Made in Italy.
