Gio Ponti drew this in 1934 and Rubelli hand-wove it then. The construction is cisele velvet with two piles, one cut and one left as loop, so the figure appears as a difference in surface rather than in colour: one register takes the light, the other returns it. The ground behind is metallic, which lifts the whole thing from underneath.
The repeat is minute, 3.5 cm by 1.4 cm, so it functions as an all-over stippled texture rather than as a pattern with any direction to it. Punteggiato means exactly that. The pile is viscose, the ground viscose, cotton and metallic yarn, 580 g at 135 cm. Rubelli rates it for light use, which puts it on a cushion, a panel or a chair back rather than on anything hard-worn. Woven in India.
