Cuoridoro is what Venice called the panels of embossed and gilded leather that lined its rooms between the fifteenth and seventeenth centuries: pressed, painted, catching light along every raised edge. This cloth reproduces that surface in weave. The design itself came from a damask fragment in the Rubelli archive, reworked and lightened.
Three wefts do the work. One traces the ground, one lays in the shade, the third is metal. Because the gold picks up whatever colour sits beneath it, the metallic yarn reads differently in each of the six versions rather than looking applied, and the relief gives it somewhere to catch.
At 250 g it is light for a lampas with this density of figure, with a 45 cm vertical and 23 cm horizontal repeat. It hangs well and it takes a cushion. 135 cm wide, made in Italy.
