The design is a Rubelli archive floral, and the printing does something unusual with it. The technique reproduces the weave structure of the original woven cloth, so the flowers appear to sit on a textile surface that is not actually there; held at an angle it reads as three-dimensional.
Luke Edward Hall's contribution was the ground. Old floral colourways can go dull, and the backgrounds here have been lifted, which is what keeps the design from looking like a reproduction of itself.
The repeat is large, 118.5 cm vertically and 72 cm across on a 145 cm width, so measure generously. Printed on linen and cotton at 390 g. Three colourways, made in Italy.
