Abstraction here means keeping the rhythm of an eighteenth-century drawing and discarding its subject. Peter Marino worked from Tiepolo sheets in his own collection, and what survives into the weave is the motion, not the figures.
The repeat is a true square, 70 cm each way, which gives this one a steadier beat than the rest of the group. Linen carries the cloth, with silk and metallic yarn worked in for the light, and at 350 g it hangs in folds rather than standing up. It is reversible, useful where a curtain is seen from a stairwell or a garden as well as from the room it belongs to. Three versions, 140 cm wide, made in Italy.
