Brocatelle earns its name from the relief: a dense figure pushed up off a plainer ground, so the pattern is felt as much as seen. Here it carries a late Baroque decoration of acanthus foliage, flowers and elements of lace, gathered into large tufts and set alternately across the field.
The ground is chine, its colour broken into fine striations, and that vibration underneath the raised figure is what stops a design this full from going heavy. Linen leads the composition, with acetate, viscose and silk behind it, 383 g at 140 cm, an 80 cm vertical repeat against 70 cm across, half the width.
Four versions, two of them neutral. It is a fabric for a room with height and some architecture in it, where a repeat this large has space to complete itself. Made in Italy.
