The Baroque pattern is conventional and knows it. What makes the cloth is the metal: shiny metallic wefts run through it in a gradation of golden shades rather than in a single tone, so the ornament moves from bright to dull along its own length and comes closer to embroidery than to weaving.
Underneath is a silk ground, and the composition is a long one, acetate, viscose, linen, silk, cotton and metallic yarn, which is what allows so many different surfaces in a single face. 465 g at 140 cm, with a 75 cm vertical repeat against 70 cm across, half the width, so the figure is large.
Rubelli rates the lampas for light use: curtains, cushions, panels, a chair in a room that is dressed rather than worked. Eight colours. Made in Italy.
