Rubelli | Rose Garden

Statues and roses together, which is how they occur in an English garden in high summer and how Luke Edward Hall drew them, in watercolour. He grows old-fashioned roses himself, and the drawing has the looseness of something done from life and not from a reference.

The print carries the many tones of the original sketch rather than a reduced version of them, and it is offered in one version for exactly that reason: separating the colours out into alternative palettes would lose the thing that makes it work.
