Rousham in Oxfordshire is a classical landscape garden with grottoes, pools and statues left to weather, and Luke Edward Hall goes there as often as he can. The drawing takes the whole scene and not a single feature, so the repeat carries buildings, water, figures and planting together and reads as a place instead of a motif.
At 68.5 by 69.5 cm the repeat is close to square and large enough that each drop shows a different part of the composition. Printed on a linen and cotton ground at 145 cm and 400 g, which gives the print a little tooth. Four colourways, made in Italy.
