Sanandaj is the Iranian city known for its rugs, and the lampas borrows the motif wholesale: the dense, compartmented field of a knotted carpet, worked in cloth. A heavy supplementary weft builds the figure in low relief, so sections stand proud of the ground and the pattern can be read with a hand as well as with an eye.
Underneath, the ground is worked for shine. The viscose and acetate carry a lustre that lifts the raised sections clear of it, and the hand stays smooth rather than crisp. At 473 g a metre there is weight enough for full drapery, and Rubelli allows light upholstery as well. 140 cm wide, 47.7 cm vertical repeat, six colourways. Made in Italy.
