The tips of the pile are printed in a colour that contrasts with the ground beneath, so the velvet is two shades at once. Flat on the roll it looks quiet. Fold it, or run a seam through it, and the under-colour opens along the crease, which is where the effect lives.

Cotton, soft rather than crisp, with a stain-resistant finish and 70,000 Martindale, a high figure for a cotton velvet. Nineteen pairings, each played out on two tones. At 630 g a metre it upholsters properly. 140 cm wide, made in Italy.
