Brocade earns its luminosity from the number of different weaves working inside one cloth. Here each element of the ornament is bound differently, so light comes off the design at a dozen angles and no two parts of the figure read the same way. Metallic weft is used liberally, and it is not a highlight but a structural part of the drawing.
Where a colourway sets ornament against ground with real contrast, the whole thing turns graphic rather than soft. Silk, viscose, cotton, linen and metallic yarn together, 437 g a metre, a 63 cm vertical repeat on a 140 cm width. Rubelli rates it for light use, which places it: curtains, cushions, panels. Six colourways, made in Italy.
