Rubelli | Sherlock

New Zealand wool, spun and twisted in Italy, woven together with a chenille yarn. Wool on its own is matte, and the chenille is there to put light back into it, so the cloth reads as a dense flat colour that turns slightly as you cross the room. At 890 g a metre it is heavy in the hand, compact rather than soft.

The numbers are the surprise. 80,000 Martindale from a cloth that is 39 per cent wool, plus EN 1021 parts 1 and 2, BS5852 sources 0 and 1, BS7176 and IMO 8, which is contract-grade fire performance out of a largely natural fibre.
