The Rubelli archive holds damask in pieces, seventeenth-century and eighteenth-century, none of it complete, and this design is made by fitting those pieces together into one figure. Because the fragments come from different hands and different decades the result has more air in it than a proper damask: solids and voids in a less regular alternation, and a rhythm that keeps moving rather than settling into the usual mirrored repeat.
The surface is silky, as the source demands. Cloth on a nonwoven ground, sold by the metre at 140 cm wide, with a 62 cm vertical and 70 cm horizontal repeat, in five colourways. Tested to EN 12149. Made in Italy. It will take a formal room without making it solemn.
