The pattern comes off a wall, not a cloth. The ceramic decoration of the mausoleum of Cem Sultan at Bursa, finished at the end of the fifteenth century, has been translated into a geometric jacquard, and the discipline of tile ornament survives the move: everything interlocks and nothing floats.
