Concentric square frames, layered and overlapping, in two colours and nothing else. Op Art worked this way in the United States in the 1960s, using flat geometry to build a surface that will not sit still, and the effect here is the same: the squares advance and recede depending on where you happen to be standing.
The repeat is 6 cm each way, tiny for a pattern with that much going on, which means the rhythm runs fast and even across a whole chair instead of being a drawing you have to place.
For all the optical business it is a quiet cloth in the hand: matte, soft, closer to cotton than to polyester. 40,000 Martindale and flame-retardant, certified for contract upholstery and curtains across the UK, France, Germany, Italy and the United States, and IMO 8 for marine.
