Late baroque ornament had no interest in restraint, and this is a fair record of it: big leaves and open flowers laid across the width in a swathe, the whole drawing traced out in metallic yarn. The ground is a silk satin and it stays luminous beneath the ornament rather than disappearing under it, so the two keep talking to one another instead of one winning outright.
Cotton, silk, viscose, acetate, linen and metallic thread in a single cloth, 391 g a metre, with a 47 cm vertical repeat on a 140 cm width. A decorating weight and a decorating design: curtains, a bed, cushions, an upholstered panel where it will be looked at rather than sat on. Seven colourways, made in Italy.
