The filler weft is offcut. Rubelli's own mill produces waste in the form of false selvedges, and rather than discard it the mill spins it back in as the padding that gives a matelasse its relief, so the quilted structure is literally made from what the looms threw away.
On the face it is quieter than that story suggests: a dense, faintly bumpy texture with something bright buried inside it, catching light the way a cut stone does. Recycled cotton and polyester with eco polyamide, 510 g a metre, 25,000 Martindale. Ten colourways, 135 cm wide, made in Italy.
