Mughal miniatures supply the scenes, architecture and figures and fragments of a court, taken freely rather than copied and reassembled into something that reads as narrative without telling a story. The embroidery is tone on tone, so against a transparent ground the whole thing behaves like figured lace, appearing only where light is behind it.

The scale is the remarkable part. The horizontal repeat is 135 cm on a 140 cm cloth, which means the design runs the full width and does not repeat across it at all: what you are hanging is closer to a panel than to a patterned sheer. 110 g a metre, two colourways, embroidered in India.
