Matelassé quilts the cloth on the loom, not after it, binding two structures together so that the face lifts where the ground is held down. The relief here is shallow and regular, and because the surface is silk, cotton and acetate it takes light at every angle of the raised areas, which is where the endless shifting of shade comes from.
It is the third of Peter Marino's jacquards for Rubelli and shares the group's palette, the whites, ice blues, salmons and aquas found in Tiepolo's paintings. A 68 cm vertical repeat, 135 cm wide, 490 g, four colourways. Part of the proceeds supports Venetian Heritage and the restoration of Venetian works of art. Made in Italy.
