Rubelli | Tuscania

A geometric lattice with a flower held inside each compartment. The late Renaissance liked its ornament ordered, and this is an Italian design of the second half of the sixteenth century, reproduced without modernisation.

The lattice repeats every 42 cm, a scale that suits a 60 cm cloth well, since a cushion or a chair back will show the grid working rather than a piece of it. Eleven percent metallic weft draws through the ground and gives the compartments an edge; a silk pile over silk and cotton makes up the body, at 280 g.

Woven by hand at Rubelli's Cucciago mill on nineteenth-century looms, in cut and uncut pile, at a few centimetres a day. Two colourways, made in Italy.
