Subtraction is what has been done here. The original is a floral of the first quarter of the eighteenth century; the shapes are simplified, the detail thinned, the colours brought up to date, so what survives is the movement of the drawing rather than its density. That is the difference between a period reproduction and a design that happens to be old.
Shine does the modelling. A mix of lustrous and metallic yarns over a silk satin ground gives chiaroscuro across the petals, so the flowers turn and recede without more colours being needed to do it. The repeat is large and close to square at 74 by 70 cm. Seven colourways, all light. 390 g, 139 cm wide, design Formafantasma, made in Italy.
