Venetian lace of the eighteenth century is the source, and what has been taken from it is not a single motif but a whole repertoire: dozens of small rocaille forms arranged across the field, some dense, some open, so the surface alternates between solid and near-transparent. Lace works the same way. The lightness is structural rather than decorative.
The vertical repeat is 101 cm, unusually long, running 70 cm across, which means the full design only shows on a long drop. On a chair or a cushion you would be working with a fragment of it, which is not necessarily wrong but ought to be a decision rather than an accident. Silk, viscose, acrylic and linen at 361 g. Six colourways, 140 cm wide, made in Italy.
