Two thick cotton cords cross each other over the ground, and along their length a shiny viscose yarn in a contrasting colour is stitched over them in segments, so each line breaks into alternating passages of matt cord and lustre. The relief is real. This stands off the cloth the way an applied embroidery does, not the way a woven figure does.
The ground is a satin in Pima cotton, which Rubelli rates among the finest cottons there is, and it is left plain so the cords have somewhere to sit. It repeats at 47 cm vertically by 65 cm across.
