Affogato takes its serpentine stripes from the shadows cast by scalloped café awnings, a piece of observed detail translated into a painterly, medium-scale pattern. The design has depth and a trompe-l'œil quality, the stripes appearing to curve and recede as though lit from above. It reads as both graphic and atmospheric, disciplined but not rigid.
Printed in the United States, it is sixty-nine centimetres wide with a vertical repeat of seventy-six centimetres and a horizontal repeat of sixty-nine centimetres. Sold by the metre from rolls of 9.14 metres, the surface is spongeable and suits walls as an all-over treatment or as a focal accent where the pattern can be appreciated in full.
