Baudin Butterfly takes its imagery from the work of Maria Sibylla Merian, the seventeenth-century German naturalist whose detailed studies of butterflies and caterpillars combined scientific observation with a draughtsman's eye. The printed design translates that precision onto paper, the insects arranged across the width in a repeating pattern.
It is made in the United States, 69 centimetres wide, with a 48-centimetre vertical repeat and a 68-centimetre horizontal repeat, supplied by the metre from 9.14-metre rolls. The surface is spongeable and the paper is available in three colourways.
