Baudin Butterfly Chintz draws its butterflies and caterpillars from the illustrations of Maria Sibylla Merian, the seventeenth-century German naturalist whose engravings combined scientific precision with an almost baroque sense of composition. Printed as a chintz, the design has the characteristic sheen and crispness of glazed cotton, the creatures poised mid-flight or mid-crawl against the cloth.
Printed in Italy on cotton, it is 141 centimetres wide with a 50-centimetre vertical repeat and a 70-centimetre horizontal repeat. It suits curtains, blinds, cushions and upholstery, and dry cleaning is recommended. The design is available in several colourways.
