Schumacher | Baudin Butterfly Linen

Baudin Butterfly Linen takes the scientific illustrations of seventeenth-century naturalist Maria Sibylla Merian and renders them in black outline on a ground of natural linen. The original engravings, precise and full of life, are here stripped back to line drawings, which gives the design a quieter, more restrained character than the coloured originals.

Made in the United States, it is printed on linen and measures 132 centimetres wide with a vertical repeat of 47 centimetres and a horizontal repeat of 66 centimetres, sold by the metre from rolls of just over nine metres. It should be vacuumed only with a soft brush and suits use as a wallcovering where a natural substrate is preferred.
