Chinois is a chinoiserie scene first issued in the 1930s, depicting pavilions, figures and foliage in a composed, illustrative style. The design has the narrative quality of a toile but with a more deliberate arrangement, and the 72-centimetre repeat allows the vignettes to unfold across wider expanses of fabric.
Printed in Peru on 100 per cent cotton, it is 137 centimetres wide with a vertical repeat of 72 centimetres and a horizontal repeat of 69 centimetres. Dry cleaning is recommended. The cloth suits curtains, blinds, cushions and upholstery, and is offered in several colourways.
