Schumacher | Colonial Crewel

Colonial Crewel takes its fanciful flora and fauna from early American textiles, chain-stitched in heavy wool onto a plain cotton ground. The design has a naïve, animated quality — folk art rendered at a mid-scale — and the wool stitching gives the cloth a pronounced texture that brings upholstered furniture and cushions to life.

Made in India, it is 137 centimetres wide with a 43-centimetre vertical repeat and a 62-centimetre horizontal repeat. Dry cleaning is recommended. The cloth suits cushions and upholstery, where its textural pattern can be appreciated at close range.
