Kiva Embroidered Ikat translates the blurred, dye-resist geometry of traditional ikat into embroidery worked onto a linen ground. The embroidered threads sit proud of the base cloth, so the pattern has a low relief and the ikat motifs gain a tactile dimension. Subtle variations in the stitching and ground are part of the cloth's character, a consequence of its making.
Embroidered in India from linen and spun polyester, it is 132 centimetres wide with a vertical repeat of 57 centimetres and a horizontal repeat of 65 centimetres. Dry cleaning is recommended. The cloth suits upholstery and cushions, and the scale of the repeat works well on chair backs, ottoman tops and larger cushions where the ikat pattern can be seen whole.
