Schumacher | La Liberté Americaine Pillow

La Liberté Americaine Toile by textile artist Richard Saja takes a historic toile de Jouy by Jean-Baptiste Huet and overlays it with colourful hand-embroidered details, so that animals, figures and landscape elements are accentuated in unexpected ways. The result is a pastoral print that both honours and subverts eighteenth-century convention, hand-screened on cotton-linen union cloth.

Made in Thailand, the cushion is 46 centimetres square, with a back in Piet Performance Linen in noir and a welt in Cedric Cotton Lipcord Medium. It includes a down and feather insert and a hidden zip. Dry cleaning is recommended. The embroidered surface and conversational subject make it a focal point rather than background.
